Stand Up! Girls To Host Virtual Fundraiser and Film Screening

Stand Up! Girls will be hosting a virtual fundraising event from October 25th through October 29th. The fundraiser consists of an at-home movie showing of All Joking Aside, followed by a Q&A with the director, writers and actors, hosted by award-winning comedian and writer, Judy Gold on October 29th.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stand Up! Girls was forced to suspend all live events and programs in March until further notice, and instead turned to online programming. The nonprofit strives to empower girls to know they can succeed and lead, and through developing and performing stand-up comedy, girls learn to own the room – be it a courtroom, operating room, or boardroom.

The film All Joking Aside directly aligns with the aim of Stand Up! Girls. “When I first came across Stand Up! Girls, and the great work that they were doing bringing stand-up into the lives of young women in the inner city, the parallels to the film were immediate. As much as I hope that the film on its own can serve as an inspiration for women to get up on stage and exercise their voices, knowing that through this partnership with Stand Up! Girls, we can concretely support this exact result is definitely exciting and gratifying,” said Jon Ornoy, the film’s director.

The film can be viewed at your leisure from October 25th through October 29th and the Q&A will be held on Zoom. Tickets are $5. All proceeds benefit the mission of Stand Up! Girls.
